TP O’Gorman and John Hanniffy from Men’s Shed Kilbeggan spoke to Will Faulkner today about a brand new type of website put together by the Irish Men’s Sheds Association that focuses on the health of Irish men. Around 40 professional organisations are signed up to it and it’s the first of it’s kind in Ireland.
Currently the website is in it’s soft launch period and will be officially launched tomorrow in Dublin at City Hall. The website aims to be a one stop shop for men to have a look at any issue regarding their health and see what supports are out there, local and national organisations that can provide help, and de-mystify a lot of the terminology associated with general health.
The website aims to empower men to take control of their own health, keep up to date with check ups, and to communicate when something may be niggling at them about their health. It includes men from all backgrounds and ages.
‘Men should get together more often and discuss their health.’
The website depicts the human body as a car and asks you to input your age first – once through you can click on any section of the human body and that will give you a drop down menu of the various lifestyle choices or illnesses that can affect the aforementioned area and provides links to the resources that can aid the viewer further should they want to follow up. The full site is available here to try out for yourself: http://malehealth.ie/
